Zhan Ying is trying to survive her job. Her boss, Zhou Yuanyou, is calm, hard to read, and pays her far too much attention: she remembers how Zhan Ying takes her coffee, finds reasons to keep her late, and has a cat on hand to explain away a dinner invitation. For most of 139 chapters the story asks one question from different angles: is this care, or is this a trap? Zhan Ying reads every signal wrong, which is the comedy. She badly wants to be wrong, which is the tension.

How it answers without cheating

A slow burn is only as good as the road to its answer, and this one paves every step. The friends who see too much, the side couple with their own mess, the fake date that causes real trouble, a cat named Mimi, and a lot of bad timing all do actual work in the plot. The Mermaid I Met by Getting Fired

She loses her job in chapter one and gets talked onto a seaside tour she has no energy for. From the boat she sees a woman in the water who should not be there, tail and all. Next morning the same woman is on the beach in a wetsuit, introducing herself as Ari, the jet ski instructor.

Seeing Xinghuo Again
