Eight Chinese GL manhua on Baiheverse end with the two women together. Five are already finished in official English, from the 15-section Wolf x Rabbit to the 139-section Straight Girl Trap.

Ch. 132Let’s Call It Zhou Siying
“My boss is only nice to me, does she like me?”
“Um… I’ve always wanted to ask you…”
“I like you.” “In a romantic way.”
“It goes to show that sometimes, liking something takes time.”
“Then are you saying yes to dating me?” “Yeah…”
“I finally put on an outfit that matches the color of my girlfriend’s outfit.”
“Let’s call it Zhou Siying.”
The name is from Chapter 1, where Zhan Ying daydreams: “If Ms. Zhou and I have a child, how does the name ‘Zhou Siying’ sound?”

“Obey my every command.”
“Friends… aren’t like that, are they?”
Tongtong, the girl the whole school calls a green tea bitch, corners honors student Lin Luxi in a stairwell and promises to keep her “secret” on one condition.
Somewhere between the commands and a summer trip, the one doing the blackmail falls first. By Chapter 23 they are dating.
Four finished series, in order of how soon the two women get together: from the first page of Wolf x Rabbit to Chapter 48 of Seeing Xinghuo Again. Pick a spine to pull one out.

“Mm… only Xiaxia… can bite me…”
No waiting at all: on the first page a half-asleep Nan Xing mistakes her girlfriend for an attacker. Fifteen short sections of their life together follow.

“I can wait for as long as needed.”
Chen Yue has reasons to say no: the age gap, the species gap, her own past. Her junior Yunshan confesses anyway, and the rest is two adults learning how to date.

“I actually… really like—”
Out of a job, she takes a trip to the seaside and meets Ari, a mermaid. The whole summer leans toward one fireworks night in the final chapter.

“So, Gu An, do you like me?”
An old camera shows Gu An a girl no one else can see. The longest wait of the four: a summer of mysteries before Xinghuo asks her outright.
“Then, try something that has taste.”
Maria, a vampire who has slept for nearly two centuries, is woken when Xing Lan, a werewolf, stumbles on her coffin, and a curse lands on Xing Lan the moment the lid comes off. The Chinese original is finished, with the two of them together at the end.
“Say… might I ask you a little favor, my darling?”
On the loneliest New Year’s Eve of her marriage, Bai Yuetao finds an old mirror in the storeroom, and the woman who steps out of it calls her darling. Finished in Chinese, and it ends with the two women together.
For decades, a love story between two women ended in a death, a breakdown or a man.

1934–1952Hollywood and paperbacks

From 1934, Hollywood enforced the Production Code, which banned “sex perversion or any inference to it.” As Elizabeth Bridges notes, homosexuality could not be mentioned on screen at all.
Novels were barely kinder. After The Price of Salt came out in 1952, readers wrote to Patricia Highsmith: “Yours is the first book like this with a happy ending!” Until then, she said, gay characters in American novels paid with their lives or by turning straight. Alice M. Kelly traces those letters and the fan fiction that still answers them.
Late 1960s–1985Film and TV

When the Code gave way to film ratings in the late 1960s, hints of queer characters began to appear, mostly as subtext. Bridges traces what came next: as they became visible, film and TV moved from silencing them to punishing them, killing them off or leaving them miserable. The pattern has a name: “Bury Your Gays.”
Desert Hearts (1985) let both women reach the end of the film alive. Jackie Stacey recalls lesbian audiences breathing “a sigh of relief”; ten years on, the film still stood almost alone.
The rules faded. The habit stayed.
2016The 100, on The CW

In March 2016, The 100 killed Lexa, a commander in love with the show’s heroine, in the same episode in which the two women finally spent the night together.
Her fans answered with a campaign on Twitter and Tumblr. Erin B. Waggoner followed them and found their grief turning into a movement about how television treats women who love women.
Fans counted. Three more lesbian characters died on other shows that same March. In the 2015–16 season, 17 of the 64 lesbian and bisexual women on US scripted broadcast TV were killed off; since 1976, such characters had a happy ending in only 16% of cases. Mar Guerrero-Pico and her co-authors cite both figures; lesbian fans had their own name for it, “Dead Lesbian Syndrome.”

So readers look for the happy ending before they commit to a long series. In 2021, Michael McDermott, studying fans tired of queer hints that never paid off, found their hopes tied to a promise of happiness: a future in which queer characters get to live.
Every series on this page ends, in its Chinese original, with the two women together.
What readers ask before they commit to a series.
Five are complete in English on Baiheverse and end with the two women together: Straight Girl Trap in 139 sections, Seeing Xinghuo Again in 50, The Mermaid I Met by Getting Fired in 21, Canine Senior and Dog Junior in 16 and Wolf x Rabbit in 15. Three more are complete in Chinese with happy endings and still coming in English: I Got Blackmailed by the Green Tea Bitch in Class, My Food Looks Very Cute and Clandestine Affair.
Wolf x Rabbit is the shortest on this list: 15 short sections, free from the first chapter to the last. Ban Xia and Nan Xing are already a couple when it begins, so the whole story is their life together.
Yes. Straight Girl Trap is complete in 139 sections and ends with Zhan Ying and Zhou Yuanyou together. It is a slow-burn office romance, free to start.
I Got Blackmailed by the Green Tea Bitch in Class is finished in Chinese, with a happy ending. The English edition is still coming out, 42 sections so far, and is free to start.
Not yet. My Food Looks Very Cute and Clandestine Affair are licensed and already listed on Baiheverse, open for subscription, and both are complete in Chinese with happy endings. Subscribe to follow them.
“Bury Your Gays” is the habit, in film and TV, of killing off queer characters or leaving them miserable; lesbian fans call their version “Dead Lesbian Syndrome.” Elizabeth Bridges traces it to Hollywood’s Production Code, and the timeline above follows it to today.
